In-Studio vs On-Location Business Portrait Session

In-studio or on-location for your Business Portrait Session?

Do the photos you’re currently using to represent yourself online feel misaligned?

If you’re thinking about new portraits to help share about yourself and your story online, is there a certain type of location that might best speak to your personality and what you want to share about yourself?

Here’s a look at in-studio sessions, and outdoor sessions to help you decide what feels right for you:

In-Studio Business Portrait Sessions

Takes place in a studio! And specifically, my studio if you’re booking with me which is located centrally in Vancouver and easy to get to via transit.

In-studio business portraits are clean, fresh, and typically minimal allowing you to take up all the space and be the main focus of the image.

In-Studio Business Portraits are great for:

  • Clean shots where you are the focus

  • Those who want more of a classic look with their images

  • Tailoring shoots to include any specific colours you want in the background

  • Sessions whatever the weather! Keeping dry and warm inside no matter the outside weather

On-Location Business Portrait Sessions

On-location shoots can be anywhere, and are great as they add a subtle hint of narrative to your portrait. They offer details into who you are and what’s important to you.

On-location can be anywhere, and some examples of places that you might choose to use as your location are:

  • Your home

  • Your studio or place of work

  • In an urban spot (eg downtown Vancouver, Mount Pleasant)

  • At the beach

  • In nature amongst trees

  • At a coffee shop

  • A rented location in and around Vancouver (I’ve got a running list of favourite places - ask me about these!)

On-Location Business Portraits are great for:

  • Speaking to your interest and values

  • Your work, and your communities

  • Creating a sense of place

  • Creating a narrative in your photos

What is the process for a Business Portrait?

The Process:

  • Shoot day!

A few extra points on choosing your location:

Know you want an on-location session and not sure where? Ask me for recommendations that will speak to what’s important to you.

“When it comes to professional headshots, I didn't want a stiff, boring photo. I wanted something that helped me come across competent, yes, but also warm, creative, and engaging. Maxine made me feel comfortable, laugh, and enjoy the entire process, even though I was surprisingly nervous beforehand. Maxine has a gift when it comes to shaking your nerves off and pulling your personality out! I would recommend Maxine in a heartbeat to absolutely anyone who wants to elevate their personal or professional brand online... and have a genuinely fun afternoon!” - Miranda B
